Meeting up for Coffee

istock_000005209894xsmallToday Megan and I will be meeting up for a coffee chat to catch up on all things Eastside Women. While meeting over wine has been a favorite of ours and conjured up some of our most favorite ideas, getting together over coffee is most convenient during the day.

As a work from home girl, I am constantly in the look out for a place to escape to when the walls of my home office seem to cave in on me. Local coffee shops are great for this, but I do have a few requirements when going somewhere for the purpose of working or for socializing.

5 Coffee Shop Musts

  1. Free wifi. This is one of the reasons I dread going to Starbucks when I need to. Their system for logging into their wifi takes up too much time in my day. I appreciate the coffee shops that make it easy to access their wifi.
  2. Baristas that are pleasant and if they are really good, they remember your name. Working in hospitality while in college, I was always conscious of connecting names to faces and finding out more about our clients. If you frequent somewhere, it is always a nice feeling that the proprietor appreciates it enough to remember your name, or at least start up a conversation with you.
  3. Good coffee. It’s always a bummer when you sit down, ready to enjoy the beverage you know you enjoy and have looked forward to all day to have it be an off day for that particular drink.
  4. Food other than sweets. Scones, cookies, and brownies are great. However, it is always nice if you are there during the lunch hour or for breakfast to have a wider variety of choices to enjoy and not feel as though you have to leave to go get food somewhere else.
  5. Comfortable seating. I love when coffee shops offer a variety of seating options. Chairs, comfy sofas, even a little ambiance in a fire, a lighting fixture, or paintings hung on the wall.

These are all good points. Over the past few years I have noticed that some coffee places have half of their shop with comfortable chairs and fireplace and the other half is power outlets and large tables. You can get some serious work done at coffee shops these days!
